This September, Firebird Theatre is proud to be able to present our next Shakespeare in the Park production: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Shakespeare’s Athenian pastoral comedy about fairies, donkeys, and rude mechanicals is considered one of the Bard’s greatest works. This production is directed by Tristan Buss and will include the use of mask-work inspired by the techniques of Ancient Greek theatre and Jacques Lecoq. Filled to the brim with wonderful wit, love triangles, physical comedy, and surprisingly dark turns, Midsummer has just about anything one could want in a night at the theatre!

Performances for this show, a first for Firebird’s Shakespeare in the Park series, will take place on both ends of the valley. Shows on the first weekend (September 6th and 7th) will take place at our traditional location of the Crested Butte Railroad Depot while the second weekend (September 13th and 14th) will be at the Quigley Bandshell on the Western Colorado University campus. Keep in mind that this will be an outdoor show, so be sure to bring raingear, chairs, and/or blankets with you! More information to follow!

Auditions!

Audition sessions for this show will occur on May 23rd and 24th. The session on the 23rd will be at the Union Congregational Church (403 Maroon Ave.) in Crested Butte between 6pm and 8pm. The session on the 24th will be at the Gunnison County Library (1 Quartz St.) between 11am and 1pm. These auditions will comprise of cold readings from selections of the script, so no preparation is necessary! Links to the sign-up forms are below, though walk-ins will also be accepted! Please be sure to provide any known conflicts between now and September 14th at the session! We hope to see you there!
